Benefits & funding

• Erasmus Mundus scholarship holders pay no tuition and receive 1,400 EUR per month, which contributes to travel, visa costs and a living allowance.
• Scholarships go to a minor percentage of the places; everyone else is self-funded.
• Self-funded tuition is 15,000 EUR for all four semesters, paid in three instalments: 2,000 EUR before 20 June, 5,500 EUR before semester one, 7,500 EUR before semester three.
• 120 ECTS over two years, with a graduation film worth 20 ECTS and a graduation essay worth 10 ECTS.
• At least four individually directed films, plus further work made in group exercises.
• Students with long-term physical, mental, intellectual or sensory impairments can be funded for assistance, medical care, equipment and transport, calculated on EACEA unit costs.
• Not covered: travel from the home country, accommodation, day-to-day living costs (the consortium estimates 600–1,000 EUR a month) and study materials.

Eligibility

• A first-cycle higher education degree at level 6 of the European Qualifications Framework, in film studies, audiovisual arts, or media and communication studies.
• Other academic backgrounds are accepted with a convincing artistic portfolio.
• Students still studying may apply with an enrolment certificate stating the expected graduation date and title, and hand in the diploma at enrolment; the degree must be finished before the programme starts (the last call set the cut-off at 31 August).
• English at CEFR B2 or above, proven by IELTS Academic 6.5, TOEFL iBT 79, Cambridge B2 First at 170 on the Cambridge Scale, Duolingo 110, or ITACE B2 inside Belgium.
• Certificates must have been issued on or after 20 January 2022; a degree taught in English in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the UK or the USA exempts you, but a medium-of-instruction letter does not.
• Open to applicants of any nationality, with no age limit and no work experience requirement.
• Documents: CV, diploma, transcript of records, passport or EU identity card, English certificate, a recent headshot, and a residence certificate issued within the previous 12 months.

Application process

   Read the application requirements on the programme site; the portal opens no later than November 2026 and runs on LUCA School of Arts’ DreamApply system.

   Gather the documents, including the residence certificate, which must be less than 12 months old at submission.

   Make the three videos: a 1-minute motivation video on what documentary means to you, why you are applying and what you expect; a 3-minute film titled “Around Me, in the Here and Now” that you shoot and edit yourself; and a link to one earlier film of 3 to 10 minutes.

   Upload all three as unlisted YouTube links, with English subtitles on anything spoken.

   Submit by the January deadline to be considered for an Erasmus Mundus scholarship, or by the April deadline for the self-funded second round.

   Applications pass a completeness check, then a ranking out of 30, then a 15–20 minute online interview.

   Scholarship results are sent by 31 March and self-funded results by 31 May; appeals are only heard where the consortium made a procedural error.
