Official Page

The Dean’s Scholarship is an annual merit scholarship administered by University of the West for continuing degree-seeking undergraduate and graduate students. It recognizes academic achievement together with leadership and service to UWest or the wider community.

Recipients continue their studies at UWest, based in Rosemead, California, with a tuition waiver for the fall and spring semesters. The latest published deadline was April 1, 2026; UWest has not announced the next opening date.

Benefits & funding

  • The award covers half tuition for up to 15 undergraduate units or 12 graduate units in each awarded semester.
  • It is a tuition waiver for fall and spring only; it does not cover fees or other attendance expenses, and no cash is paid to the student.
  • The amount varies with registered units, and recipients undergo a mid-year progress review during the first two weeks of the spring semester.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be continuing, degree-seeking UWest students; ESL-only and certificate-only students are not eligible.
  • Undergraduates must register for and successfully complete at least 12 units each semester, while graduate students must complete at least 9; final-semester students may appeal for an exception.
  • The minimum GPA is 3.2 for undergraduates and 3.5 for graduate students, although individual exceptions may be considered for distinguished strength in other evaluation criteria.
  • Applicants must demonstrate leadership, service, integrity, and academic achievement.
  • UWest states no nationality restriction for this merit scholarship and notes that international students may receive merit scholarships; applicants must already be continuing UWest students.
