Moment Magazine runs the Daniel Pearl Investigative Journalism Initiative (DPIJI) in partnership with The Daniel Pearl Foundation. It was founded in 2010 to honour the 38-year-old Wall Street Journal reporter who was slain by terrorists in Pakistan in 2002 while investigating Al Qaeda. Each year Moment, helped by an advisory board of working journalists, selects one DPIJI Fellow.
The fellow receives financial and editorial support to research and write a single long-form investigative story about antisemitism or another deeply ingrained prejudice, wherever in the world the reporting leads. Fellows work closely with Moment editors and selected advisory board members, and the finished piece is published in Moment. Past fellowship stories have covered the Rohingya in Myanmar, Ahmadis in Pakistan, Yazidis in Iraq, people of Haitian descent stripped of citizenship in the Dominican Republic, and antisemitism inside Britain’s national students’ union.

Eligibility
- Working journalists who can show three stories published in a print or digital publication, at least one of them long-form.
- Applicants submit name, date of birth and contact details. The initiative publishes no age limits, no nationality requirement and no residency requirement on its site.
- A recommendation from a professor or editor is required, plus phone numbers and emails for three further references.
- Preference goes to applicants already familiar with the issue they propose to investigate.
- Applicants must be able to begin work within three months of acceptance and file final copy within six months.
- No degree requirement is stated.

Application process

- 5Prepare a detailed reporting plan naming the roughly 20 sources you intend to interview, with a travel timeline if travel is needed.
