Cuso International, a Canada-based international cooperation and development organization, recruits experienced professionals as volunteers who advise partner organizations on poverty, inequality, economic resilience and climate action.
There are three routes: in-person placements in Africa, Latin America or the Caribbean; e-volunteering, working online with overseas partners from home; or a remote Northwest Territories community, offering learning assistance to Indigenous youth. Each vacancy sets its own duties, location and language.
Benefits & funding
- International volunteers get a modest living allowance similar to local colleagues’, plus accommodation and return airfare.
- Health insurance, required immunizations and pre-departure training are covered; insurance runs up to three months after return and excludes pre-existing conditions.
- Placements of 12 months or longer bring limited support for an accompanying partner or children.
- The published package covers international volunteers; check each e-volunteer or Canadian posting for its terms.
Eligibility
- Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada only.
- At least two years of professional experience in a relevant field.
- A recognized qualification; the e-volunteering posting asks for a degree or diploma.
- Available for six to 12 months in placement; e-volunteering runs three to six months.
- E-volunteers need fluency in English, French or Spanish, depending on the partner; French- or Spanish-speaking placements give preference to Level 3–4 on Cuso’s language scale.
- In-person volunteers must get medical clearance, meet the host country’s entry and work-permit rules, and accept a modest allowance at local living standards.
