The Chinese University of Hong Kong sets aside eight scholarships a year for the strongest students in its incoming undergraduate class. Each one is worth HK$50,000, paid once and not renewable.
There is no application to send in. Faculties invite new students to compete after the academic year has started, and details are announced each October.
Selection weighs entrance results and first-term results at CUHK alongside language proficiency, leadership, commitment to service and awards already won. Admission channel and residency make no difference, so local and non-local students are considered together. The real gate is admission itself: a place on a full-time undergraduate programme at the University’s campus in Hong Kong.

- For scale, 2026-27 tuition is HK$214,000 a year for non-local students and HK$47,000 for local students, with on-campus accommodation about HK$17,000 a year and living expenses about HK$45,000.

- The scheme has run since 2021 entry, with eight recipients in every cohort so far.
Eligibility
- Open to new students admitted to any full-time undergraduate programme at CUHK.
- Any admission channel counts, and residency makes no difference: local and non-local students compete together.
- No nationality or residency requirement applies.
- Candidates must be enrolled students: the competition runs inside the University once the academic year has begun.
- Selection criteria are entrance results, first-term academic results at CUHK, language proficiency, a track record of distinguished leadership, commitment to service, and awards attained.
- Where candidates are of equal standard, family financial condition is also taken into account.
- The scholarship has no separate deadline of its own. The date that matters is the undergraduate admission deadline: for 2026 entry, the international and non-local route closed on 29 May 2026 under the extended deadline.

Application process
- 1Apply for admission to a full-time CUHK undergraduate programme through the route that fits your qualifications: JUPAS or non-JUPAS for local students, the mainland Gaokao route, or the international and non-local application.
- 2Accept the offer and register. Registration and course selection run from August to September, and teaching starts in early September.
- 3Watch for the Faculty announcement in October, when scholarship details are released to new students.
- 4Accept the Faculty’s invitation to compete and submit whatever the Faculty asks for.
