Constellation Institute is a non-profit that runs an independent research centre in Berkeley, California, working on the safe development, deployment and governance of advanced AI. The Visiting Fellowship invites researchers who are already working full-time on AI safety to spend three to six months working from that centre.
The programme is lightly structured. Fellows keep their own project and their own hours, there are no compulsory activities, and the point of it is time inside the Constellation network — talks, introductions, and daily contact with researchers from non-profits, universities, AI companies, think tanks and governments.
Constellation covers the cost of being there rather than paying a wage. Housing, travel and meals are provided and there is no stipend, so the fellowship suits people whose salary or grant carries on while they visit.

Eligibility
- Open to anyone working full-time on AI safety. The programme states no degree, nationality, residency or age requirement.
- The applicant’s work should sit in one of Constellation’s focus areas — alignment and control, governance, risk communication — or something closely related.
- Attendance in person in Berkeley, on average at least three days a week. There is no remote option.
- International applicants are welcome; Constellation provides guidance on the visa process.
- Applications from women and from underrepresented groups are particularly encouraged.
- A fellow may take part for up to six months within any two-year period.

Application process

- 2While applications are closed, submit the expression-of-interest form linked from the programme page to be notified when the next round opens.
