The Columbia Center for Political Economy appoints full-time Postdoctoral Research Scholars to pursue their own research while supporting an Idea Lab. Scholars work in New York on political economy topics spanning work and labor, firms and industrial policy, climate, and international political economy.

The 2026–27 competition is closed. The program is intended for early-career scholars whose projects can contribute original research or writing on political economy.

Benefits & funding

  • Salary of USD 72,116–80,000.
  • Funding for up to one year, with the possibility of a one-year extension.
  • Time for independent research alongside seminars, conferences, public events, outreach, and other Idea Lab activities.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must have a PhD, JSD, or equivalent in the social sciences, history, or law.
  • Applicants may document degree completion or provide a timeline for obtaining the degree.
  • No nationality or residency restriction is stated; the Center aims to support scholars affiliated with institutions of all types and from all world regions.
  • Applicants should choose the Idea Lab that best matches their background, expertise, and research interests.

Application process
