The Chinese Government Scholarship-WMO Program is jointly administered by the China Scholarship Council and the World Meteorological Organization. It supports master’s and PhD study in meteorology at Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology or hydrology and water-resources fields at Hohai University in Nanjing.

The 2026 WMO compendium listed 15 awards for this CSC-WMO route and described it as a full scholarship. Candidates require institutional admission and nomination through their country’s Permanent Representative with WMO.

  • For NUIST placements, the university lists tuition, university dormitory, comprehensive medical insurance, and a monthly stipend of CNY 3,000 for master’s students or CNY 3,500 for doctoral students.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must work for a National Meteorological and Hydrological Service or a relevant national institution, secure admission to an eligible program, and be nominated by their country’s Permanent Representative with WMO.
  • The WMO compendium targets least-developed and developing countries; the NUIST route requires citizenship outside China.
  • Master’s applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree and be younger than 35 on 1 September of the study-start year.
  • PhD applicants must hold a master’s degree and be younger than 40 on 1 September of the study-start year.
  • Applicants must provide the language certificate required by their route: HSK for Chinese-taught study or IELTS or TOEFL for English-taught study.
  • NUIST additionally requires good physical and mental health, a CGPA of at least 3.0 out of 4.0, and compliance with its admission requirements.

Application process

    Apply to NUIST or Hohai University and obtain the required pre-admission or admission letter.

    Complete the Chinese Government Scholarship application through Campus China; the NUIST route uses program category A and agency number 00002.

    Obtain nomination from the applicant’s country Permanent Representative with WMO and complete the WMO Fellowship Nomination Form.

    Send WMO the nomination form, the completed CSC application form, and the university pre-admission letter by the WMO deadline.
