Official Page

The Chevening South Asia Journalism Fellowship is a professional programme for mid-career journalists from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Chevening administers the fellowship, and the University of Westminster delivers it in London.

The programme brings eligible journalists to the UK for structured professional development. The official SAJP page is currently unavailable, and the next application cycle has not been published.

Benefits & funding

  • Chevening fellowship terms normally cover programme or tuition fees and approved economy travel to and from the fellow’s country of residence.
  • The standard package includes a personal living allowance and visa-fee reimbursement for the fellow.
  • Depending on the fellowship type, arrival and departure allowances may also be provided; final amounts and components are confirmed in the award letter.
  • The award supports the fellow only and does not fund dependants.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be mid-career journalists and citizens of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Pakistan, or Sri Lanka.
  • Chevening fellowship applicants normally need at least five years of relevant work experience, equivalent to 7,200 hours.
  • Applicants must demonstrate leadership and influence and agree to return to their country of citizenship for at least one year after the fellowship.
  • British or dual British citizens are generally ineligible, except eligible citizens of a British Overseas Territory.
  • Applicants must meet Chevening’s restrictions concerning recent UK Government scholarship funding and relevant employment or family relationships.
