The Chan Pang Kuen Memorial International Distinction Scholarship supports students entering the first year of an undergraduate degree at the University of Alberta while studying on a Study Permit. The university selects recipients for academic standing and evidence of leadership, community engagement, volunteerism or extracurricular involvement.

Preference is given to applicants who attended high school in China or Hong Kong and hold Chinese or Hong Kong citizenship; this is a preference, not a stated eligibility restriction. The scholarship is administered through the University of Alberta Awards Hub.

Benefits & funding

  • The scholarship provides up to CAN $120,000, payable over four years.
  • Funding may renew for the second, third and fourth years when the recipient meets the published academic and enrolment conditions.
  • Recipients may not also receive another University of Alberta international entrance award or scholarship.

Eligibility

  • Be entering the first year of an undergraduate degree at the University of Alberta while studying on a Study Permit.
  • Have superior academic achievement.
  • Demonstrate leadership, community engagement, volunteerism or extracurricular involvement.
  • The university gives preference to applicants who attended high school in China or Hong Kong and have Chinese or Hong Kong citizenship.
  • For renewal, achieve at least a 2.0 GPA on a minimum of 18 credits during the most recent September-to-April period at the University of Alberta and continue studying on a Study Permit.
