CDH Visiting Fellowships — Fellowship

Cambridge Digital Humanities (CDH) hosts Visiting Fellows who come to Cambridge to pursue their own digital humanities research. A fellowship runs for one term, two terms, or exceptionally three, timed to the start of the University’s Michaelmas, Lent or Easter term.

It is open to scholars based outside the University of Cambridge whose work sits in the arts, humanities or social sciences, including interdisciplinary research reaching into medicine, engineering or the natural sciences.

CDH supplies the setting rather than the money. Fellows arrange their own funding, pay the University visitors’ fee, and receive no academic supervision.

Give and attend talks and research training events, take part in the Methods Learning programme, and convene reading groups.
No salary, stipend or allowance: funding for travel, accommodation and living costs must be in place before arrival.
Fellows pay the University visitors’ fee, set at £2,400 per year, £720 per term, or £90 per week outside term-time, all exclusive of 20% VAT where applicable.

Eligibility

Open to any scholar working outside the University of Cambridge.
The PhD must already have been awarded when the application is submitted.
The research must fall in digital humanities within the arts, humanities or social sciences; interdisciplinary work involving medicine, engineering or the natural sciences is welcome.
No nationality, residency, age or gender restriction is published.
The covering letter must confirm either that funding is in place or that you are applying for a Scholarship; visas are the fellow’s own responsibility, and travel and health insurance are required.
Fellows are expected to live in Cambridge for the visit, with research-related travel allowed, and to deliver a workshop or seminar and/or convene a reading group.

Application process

Pick a start term — Michaelmas (beginning of October), Lent (middle of January) or Easter (middle of April) — and a length of one, two or three terms.

Prepare a two-page CV, a covering letter setting out why CDH, your preferred dates, and either confirmation that funding is in place or a statement that you are applying for a Scholarship, the names of one or two University of Cambridge academic staff members, a research proposal of 800 to 1,000 words, and a sample of written work such as a journal article.

Ask one referee for a letter of recommendation, registering them at least two weeks before the deadline.

Submit through the CDH application system, which accepts applications only while a call is live.
