CAYSS is Chung-Ang University’s scholarship for international graduate students in natural sciences, engineering, pharmacy, nursing and medicine. Applicants pursue a master’s, doctoral or combined master’s-doctoral degree in South Korea and must first secure a recommendation from a full-time Chung-Ang faculty member.

The scholarship is tied to the university’s spring and fall graduate admissions. The latest completed application deadline was May 13, 2026 for Fall 2026; the university says spring-intake applications normally run from October to November, but exact Spring 2027 dates have not been published.

Benefits & funding

  • Master’s and doctoral recipients receive application-fee, admission-fee and tuition waivers for four semesters, while combined-degree recipients receive tuition waivers for eight semesters.
  • The academic adviser provides a living stipend of at least KRW 500,000 per month during coursework.
  • Continued funding requires a GPA of at least 3.5 and the adviser’s approval each semester.
  • Doctoral students must pay two research-registration semesters at about 10% of full tuition; CAYSS does not cover this charge or accommodation fees.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must qualify for the international admission route: either the applicant and both parents are foreign nationals, or the applicant is a foreign national who completed at least 16 years of education outside South Korea.
  • Master’s and combined-degree applicants must hold or expect to receive a bachelor’s degree before the semester starts; doctoral applicants must similarly hold or expect a master’s degree.
  • Applicants need a recommendation from a full-time Chung-Ang University faculty member in natural sciences, engineering, pharmacy, nursing or medicine.
  • Applicants must meet at least one language route: TOPIK or TOPIK IBT level 4; TOEFL iBT 71, IELTS 5.5, CEFR B2, TEPS 600, TOEIC 800 or an accepted equivalent; listed exemptions also apply.
  • The final-school CGPA must be at least 2.64/4.0, 2.80/4.3, 2.91/4.5, 3.23/5.0 or 80% on a percentile scale.
