CASA PIP is a free-of-charge, unstructured residency for film-workers, run by filmmakers Joële Walinga and Daniel Warth in a village in the Serra do Açor mountains of central Portugal. Selected residents get solo, private use of the whole village house for up to a month to write, research, edit, experiment, or rest — there is no required output and no fixed programme. It is open to anyone who works in film, in any role, from any country.
Benefits & funding
- Free use of the entire residency house (bedrooms, living-room studio, dining room, workshop, fully equipped kitchen, bathrooms) for a stay of up to one month, sole occupancy.
- Wireless internet, bicycles, parking, laundry, and heating/cooling included.
- Companions welcome: you may bring a collaborator, partner, children, or a pet.
- Not covered: travel to Portugal, meals, and any artist stipend — residents pay their own way there and feed themselves.
- Note: applying carries a €35 submission fee, which the founders say funds administration and jurors and keeps the residency itself free.
Eligibility
- Open to anyone involved in the making of films in any capacity — directing, writing, acting, cinematography, production design, editing, sound design, composing, and more.
- Applicants from all countries are accepted; no nationality or residency restriction.
- No degree, age, or experience requirement.
- Duo and collaborator applications are accepted; past residents may reapply.
