Canada-China Scholars’ Exchange Program

Benefits & funding

• The Chinese Government Scholarship covers tuition at participating institutions.
• Monthly stipends are approximately 2,500 yuan for undergraduate students, 3,000 yuan for Master’s students and General Scholars, and 3,500 yuan for doctoral students and Senior Scholars.
• Recipients receive on-campus accommodation or, where the host permits it, an off-campus housing subsidy, plus comprehensive medical insurance.
• Global Affairs Canada covers approved round-trip travel to the destination in China by the most cost-effective route. Employees of Government of Canada departments and agencies remain eligible for the scholarship but do not receive this travel benefit.
• Recipients are responsible for costs outside the approved benefits.

Eligibility

• Applicants must be Canadian citizens, be available in the 2026–2027 academic year and show a strong academic or professional record.
• Proposed study or research must focus on China Studies. Eligible areas include Chinese language, literature, linguistics, history, arts, journalism, politics, international relations, sociology, business, economics, law, geography, education, communications, public administration, environmental studies, architecture and public or global health.
• Non-degree students must be enrolled in a college, undergraduate or graduate program at a Designated Learning Institution in Canada; their exchange lasts 4 to 12 months.
• Graduate degree seekers must hold an undergraduate or graduate degree from a Canadian Designated Learning Institution, or finish a Canadian graduate program before departure; their degree study in China lasts 12 to 24 months.
• Faculty, researchers and postdoctoral fellows must hold a full-time position at a Canadian Designated Learning Institution or recognized research institution; their placement lasts 1 to 12 months.
• Mid-career professionals must have worked for at least three years in government, media, a cultural organization or an education association and hold managerial, policy-development or decision-making responsibilities; their placement lasts 1 to 12 months.
• Applicants need proficiency in the language of instruction. Chinese-taught undergraduate study requires HSK level 3, while Chinese-taught graduate study requires HSK level 4.
• CSC General Scholar applicants must hold at least a high school diploma and be under 45. Senior Scholar applicants undertaking research must hold at least a Master’s degree or be associate professors or research staff and be under 50.

Application process

   Identify participating Chinese institutions, contact prospective hosts and begin arranging admission or research access before applying.

   Create an individual My EduCanada account, complete the form and upload the required documents by January 12, 2026.

   Pre-selected applicants are notified by February 23, 2026 and should seek pre-admission letters from the three institutions listed in their application.

   Complete the CSC application as Type A with agency number 1241, select three institutions, upload the required materials and submit by March 1, 2026.
