The Big Data Summer Immersion at Yale (BDSY) is an intensive, interdisciplinary six-week program that equips undergraduate students with the skills to use the power of big data for human health. It is run by the Yale School of Public Health, drawing faculty and graduate-student mentors from the departments of Biostatistics, Statistics and Epidemiology alongside experts from Yale Engineering and Computer Science. Students spend the summer on campus in New Haven, Connecticut, learning data-science methods and applying them to pressing health problems. The cohort works toward a closing research symposium where participants present their projects. The program is funded by the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH / NHLBI, grant HL161795-01), Yale’s Department of Statistics & Data Science, the Yale School of Public Health, and donors.
