Belt and Road Scholarship (Designated Countries) — Bachelor's Scholarship

The Belt and Road Scholarship is funded by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and administered through participating institutions. This designated-countries category supports first-year non-local students from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar, Mongolia and Kazakhstan who enter full-time publicly funded undergraduate programmes in Hong Kong.

Institutions select or nominate candidates under their own admission processes. The scheme spans fields offered through eligible publicly funded undergraduate programmes.

Benefits & funding

Full tuition fees for the normal duration of the undergraduate programme.
Annual renewal is subject to satisfactory academic performance.
The official scheme pages do not state that living, travel or accommodation costs are covered.

Eligibility

Be a national of Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar, Mongolia or Kazakhstan.
Be a first-year non-local student entering a full-time publicly funded undergraduate programme in Hong Kong.
Selection considers academic excellence, contribution to the institution or community, leadership and communication skills, and commitment to the Hong Kong community.

Application process

Apply for first-year admission to an eligible full-time publicly funded undergraduate programme at a participating Hong Kong institution.

Follow that institution’s scholarship procedure; there is no central application route or single scheme-wide deadline stated by the Education Bureau.

For the HKU 2026 route, indicate interest in the scholarship in the undergraduate application account and upload the requested supporting documents.
