The Beijing Government Scholarship supports international students studying for degrees at Peking University in Beijing. Peking University administers the award through its International Students Division.

The route depends on student status: prospective graduate students submit a scholarship application, prospective undergraduates are considered from their admission results, and eligible current students apply during the annual September round. The scholarship is awarded in Types A, B and C, with different benefit packages.

Benefits & funding

  • Type A covers full tuition, housing, a living stipend and medical insurance.
  • Type B covers full tuition, housing and medical insurance.
  • Type C covers full tuition and medical insurance.
  • For new students, support follows the regular degree length without extension; for current students, an award covers one academic year.
  • PKU lists the study duration under this scholarship as 2 to 3 years for a master’s degree and 4 to 5 years for a doctorate.
  • The 2026 prospective-graduate notice described the available award as a full or partial tuition waiver, so applicants should not assume they will receive a particular tier.

Eligibility

  • The scholarship is for international students in regular-tuition degree programs at Peking University.
  • Prospective graduate applicants must meet PKU’s international admission requirements and pass the preliminary review for a full-time, self-funded master’s or doctoral application.
  • Current applicants must be full-time international undergraduate, master’s or doctoral students at PKU in their second year or above.
  • At enrollment, undergraduate applicants must be no older than 25, master’s applicants no older than 35, and doctoral applicants no older than 40.
  • Applicants cannot hold another scholarship from a Chinese government body, social organization or PKU, except a one-time non-renewable merit award; the latest current-student notice also allowed Type C holders to seek an upgrade to Type A or B.
  • Prospective undergraduates do not file a separate scholarship application and are selected from qualified admitted students through the university’s comprehensive evaluation.

Application process

    Prospective graduate students first submit a full-time self-funded graduate admission application in the preceding autumn.

    When the annual scholarship notice opens, sign in to the PKU International Student Service System and select Home, Scholarship Application, then Application for Prospective Students.

    Enter the requested information, upload official transcripts and supporting documents, and submit by the stated deadline; one PKU scholarship application is used to assess several scholarship categories, with only one final award.

    Prospective undergraduates complete the relevant admission route and require no separate scholarship submission.

    Eligible current students use Application for Current Students during the September round and upload an official PKU transcript with their supporting documents.

    Monitor the email address used in the application for the scholarship decision and any request for supplementary materials.
