AECID runs this program at the Real Academia de España en Roma for artistic creation and research. Applicants propose work in fields including architecture, performing and visual arts, audiovisual media, cultural heritage, design, theory, literature and music. The 2026–2027 call allocates 171 residency-months to no more than 19 recipients.
Residents live and work at the Academy in Rome for four to nine consecutive months. The 2026–2027 application window is closed; its deadline was 3 June 2026.
Benefits & funding

- Residence in the country of nationality is not required.
- Applicants must be artists or creators with a demonstrable track record, or researchers working in a field related to the listed specialties.

Application process
- 1Register in the AECID electronic office Citizen Folder before starting an application.
- 2During the application window, select the Rome residency call and complete the online form, including the project description, motivation, connection to Italy or the Academy, intended audience, detailed schedule, requested amount and budget breakdown, and links to prior work.
- 3Upload each required document as a PDF in its designated field; each file must be no larger than 10 MB, and non-Spanish documents need a Spanish translation unless they are language certificates.
- 4Sign and submit the application electronically, then verify the registration receipt under the applicant account.
