The Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through AMEXCID, offers this annual scholarship for international students at 90 participating Mexican higher education institutions. The 2026 routes covered undergraduate mobility, master’s mobility, a full master’s degree, and doctoral or postdoctoral research.
All routes were full-time and in person in Mexico. The 2026 application period has closed, and the next call has not been announced.
Benefits & funding
- Undergraduate mobility, master’s mobility, and full master’s recipients received a monthly stipend of MXN 14,264.88, paid in arrears.
- Doctoral and postdoctoral research recipients received a monthly stipend of MXN 17,831.10, paid in arrears.
- Enrollment and tuition were covered according to the participating institution’s program.
- IMSS health insurance began in month 7 and continued for the remaining scholarship period.
- The award included a Mexican visa-fee exemption; return economy airfare and domestic transportation applied only under the relevant official annexes.
Eligibility
- Applicants had to be at least 18 and hold the nationality of a country or territory named in Annex 5 of the call, which listed 186 countries and 12 non-self-governing territories; nationality outside that annex was a bar.
- Applicants had to reside in their country of nationality and receive support, recommendation, or sponsorship from an institution in that country.
- The available routes were undergraduate mobility for enrolled bachelor’s students, master’s mobility for enrolled master’s students, a full master’s degree for bachelor’s graduates, and research stays at doctoral or postdoctoral level, for which the call required a copy of the doctoral degree.
- Applicants had to arrange admission or research affiliation independently and obtain the corresponding letter from an eligible Mexican institution.
- Ineligible applicants included foreign diplomats in Mexico and their immediate families; dual Mexican nationals and children of a Mexican parent; applicants holding or seeking a family-unity visa; people receiving another Mexican government scholarship; certain recent or non-completing former AMEXCID recipients; and foreign residents in Mexico without valid temporary student residence.
