Benefits & funding

• Full waiver of the tuition fee for the programme the holder is admitted to. Tuition at Gothenburg is priced per programme: the Bachelor’s in Software Engineering and Management costs 435,000 SEK in total, the Master’s Programme in Global Studies 192,000 SEK.
• Tuition only. There is no living allowance and no travel grant.
• The foundations transfer the payment directly to the University of Gothenburg.
• One award per programme, plus four awards in total across the Artistic Faculty programmes. In the 2026 round up to ten additional awards went to the programmes with the most scholarship applicants.
• The Axel Adler Scholarship for Sustainability adds a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 12 awards for sustainability-focused Master’s programmes.
• The 900 SEK application fee charged by universityadmissions.se stays with the applicant.
• Holders keep the award by completing at least 75 percent of each semester’s credits.
• The award cannot be combined with another scholarship that covers the tuition fee.

Eligibility

• The applicant must be liable for tuition fees in Sweden. Citizens of the EU and the EEA, holders of a Swedish residence permit and exchange students pay no fees and are therefore outside the scheme. Beyond that rule the university states no citizenship restriction.
• The applicant applies through universityadmissions.se to an international campus-based Bachelor’s or Master’s programme at the University of Gothenburg and lists it as first priority.
• The admission application, the application fee and the documents proving fee status must all arrive by the deadlines of the first admission round.
• Online and distance programmes are excluded. A programme with a period of study abroad remains eligible.
• Eligible Bachelor’s programmes: Software Engineering and Management, International Relations, Business and Economics, and the BFA programmes in Metal Art, Wood Oriented Furniture Design, and Craft with Specialisation in Crafting Futures.
• International campus-based Master’s programmes are covered. Sustainability-focused Master’s programmes also compete for the sustainability awards, with the distance-learning Master’s in Education for Sustainable Development excluded.
• No age limit, work experience requirement or gender requirement is published.

Application process

   Choose an international campus-based Bachelor’s or Master’s programme at the University of Gothenburg and place it first in the application on universityadmissions.se.

   Submit the admission application by the January deadline of the first admission round. In the 2026 round the deadline was 15 January 2026.

   Pay the 900 SEK application fee and upload the documents proving fee status and eligibility. In the 2026 round that deadline was 2 February 2026.

   Wait for the invitation email from the university. Eligible applicants in the 2026 round received it around 10 February 2026.

   Write a CV and a letter of motivation in the scholarship application system, each at most 3,000 characters. Attachments are not accepted.

   Wait for the faculty assessment. The 2026 round announced results on 7 April 2026 for Master’s applicants and 14 April 2026 for Bachelor’s applicants.

8. The cycle repeats each year. Applications for autumn 2027 are expected to open in mid-October 2026, when the university publishes the requirements for the 2027 round.
