AstroCom NYC is a multi-year research fellowship and intensive mentoring program run by CUNY Astro for CUNY undergraduates interested in graduate study and careers in astronomy. Scholars begin astrophysics research, receive career and research mentoring, and train within New York City’s astronomy community.
The program includes academic-year support and intensive summer research experiences. Through CUNY Astro’s partnership with the Flatiron Institute, some scholars conduct summer research at the Center for Computational Astrophysics.

- A 12-month stipend is available for up to two years.
- The program provides academic-year fellowships and summer research fellowships.
- Scholars receive long-term career mentoring, research mentoring, and research training.
- Support can include a research laptop for qualified scholars, travel to observatories and conferences, and student membership in the American Astronomical Society.
Eligibility
- Applicants must be enrolled at a CUNY two-year or four-year college.
- Applicants must show interest in a physics or astronomy career through their application essays, course choices, and major.
- Students from groups underrepresented in science are particularly encouraged to apply; this is an encouragement, not an eligibility restriction.
