The Asia-Europe Training and Youth Summit on Science and Technology Diplomacy 2026 is organised by the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) as part of its Asia-Europe Science and Technology Diplomacy Initiative for Young Professionals. It brings together early-career research managers, science administrators, diplomats and government officials from across Asia and Europe to build skills in science and technology diplomacy and its role in Asia-Europe relations. The programme runs in two stages: an online training course (22 July – 8 October 2026) for roughly 100–120 participants, and an in-person Youth Summit (19–24 October 2026) in Jakarta, Indonesia, hosted with Indonesia’s National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), for about 40 participants selected from the training cohort.
Benefits & funding
- Participation is free of charge — no registration or participation fees.
- Online training: 12 live expert-led sessions across the programme (about 3.5 hours per week), interactive workshops, and peer-to-peer learning across Asia and Europe.
- For the ~40 participants selected for the Jakarta Youth Summit: accommodation, meals and travel subsidies are provided.
- Youth delegates co-author and present a Declaration on Youth Perspectives on Asia-Europe Cooperation in Science Diplomacy.
Eligibility
- Citizens of an eligible Asian or European country (see country list).
- Up to 35 years old.
- Two professional profiles: (1) research and science managers in tertiary-education institutions, research organisations and professional bodies; (2) diplomats and government officials working on international collaboration and science & technology diplomacy.
- Excellent command of English (spoken and written) and of the official language of the applicant’s country.
- Not open to current undergraduate or doctoral students / candidates.
