Official Page

Art Omi: Writers is a competitive international residency program run by Art Omi, an arts center in Ghent, New York, in the Hudson Valley about 2.5 hours north of New York City. Each spring and fall it hosts published authors and literary translators for sessions of roughly one month, giving them time and space to focus on a text-based project. All forms of literature are welcome — fiction, nonfiction, theater, film, poetry and more — and a wide national and linguistic mix among residents is an explicit goal of the selection process. A shorter Translation Lab session in September brings translators and authors together on collaborative projects. The 2027 residency year runs four writers’ sessions between April 2 and November 9, 2027.

Benefits & funding

  • The residency is fully funded: there is no cost to attend.
  • Accommodations and all meals are provided on campus, along with local transport and public programming.
  • Each resident receives an additional private bedroom to use as a dedicated working space.
  • Campus facilities include high-speed wi-fi, a shared kitchen, laundry, a library and computer facilities.
  • Travel to and from Ghent, New York is the resident’s own responsibility; limited travel assistance may be available case by case.
  • Art Omi can provide a letter of participation to support a visa application.

  • Open to applicants of all nationalities; international participation is central to the program’s mission.
