The American Research Institute of the South Caucasus (ARISC) funds graduate and postdoctoral research on Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia in the social sciences, humanities and related sciences.
Fellows travel to the region or, where the call allows, research remotely. The 2025–26 round closed on 5 December 2025; ARISC has not yet posted the next call.
Benefits & funding
- A research grant toward economy airfare, ground transport, lodging, meals and incidentals, a local SIM card, internet and utilities.
- Cap: US$1,500 in the 2019–20 call; the current cap is not on the official pages reviewed.
- Meals and incidentals may not exceed U.S. State Department per-diem rates.
- Recipients arrange their own medical, evacuation and repatriation insurance, with proof before funds are paid; ARISC funds cannot cover it.
Eligibility
- U.S. or Canadian citizens, or U.S. or Canadian permanent residents.
- Graduate students enrolled in accredited degree programs in the U.S. or Canada, or postdocs and junior scholars who earned their PhD within a set window (since 2015 in the 2019–20 call).
- ARISC members only (student, individual or institutional membership).
- Research must concern Armenia, Azerbaijan and/or Georgia.
