The AIxBio Research Fellowship is run by ERA with the Cambridge Biosecurity Hub. Fellows spend ten weeks full-time at ERA’s Cambridge office on a concrete problem where advanced AI meets biosecurity.
Each fellow takes one of three tracks — Research, Placement with a biosecurity team, or Founding a new effort — with an expert mentor and an ERA research manager. The Winter 2027 cohort runs 18 January – 26 March 2027.
Benefits & funding
- £10,000 stipend for the ten weeks, including a housing portion.
- Travel to and from Cambridge, visa costs and sponsorship, and meals during working hours are covered.
- Accommodation is not provided; ERA helps fellows find it.
- A research expense allowance, plus compute where needed.
- Strong fellows may continue for up to six months as ERA Research Scholars.
Eligibility
- Aged 18 or older by 18 January 2027; no other formal restrictions.
- Open to all nationalities and career stages; ERA sponsors visas for international fellows from most countries, and your passport must be valid until at least March 2027 with a blank visa page.
- Prior formal research experience helps but is not required.
- The programme is in person; remote participation is only discussed case by case after an offer.

Application process
