Reopens ~Oct 2027

The Council on Strategic Risks’ Converging Risks Lab runs this fellowship in partnership with the Future of Life Institute. The 2026–2027 round is its second cohort.

Fellows follow a seven-month bootcamp of monthly modules on AI control — cyber operations, CBRN, military integration, escalation with China, testing and the workforce — plus two scenario exercises, a capstone matrix game and a domestic trip to frontier AI labs. In-person events are in downtown DC.

Benefits & funding

  • The pages state no participation fee and no stipend.
  • A short domestic staff ride to frontier AI labs and similar sites, with airfare, lodging and meals covered.
  • 14 two-hour sessions, half virtual and half at CSR’s Farragut Square office; six senior leaders serve as advisors.
  • Kick-off and closing dinners plus networking with officials and peers.
  • Fellows who miss more than six sessions cannot claim alumni status.

Eligibility

  • US citizens, and foreign nationals from allied nations who are based in DC (the page does not list which nations count as allied).
  • Must live in the DC area and be able to attend regular meetings and events in downtown DC.
  • Must affirm they can attend all bootcamp meetings; up to five sessions may be missed for excusable reasons.
  • Aimed at mid-career professionals, defined as 10–15 years of professional and/or advanced academic experience.
  • Open to backgrounds in diplomacy, defense, law, science and technology, Congress, or local, state or federal government; AI knowledge helps but is not required.
