African Development Bank Internship Programme

Benefits & funding

• Eligible interns receive a monthly stipend; the official pages do not publish the amount.
• The Bank pays for medical insurance during the internship.
• On-site interns pay their own travel to and from the duty location and their own upkeep.
• The Bank makes reasonable efforts to assist with entry and residence visas.
• Each person may undertake the internship only once.

Eligibility

• Applicants must have reached the age of majority in their country of nationality or origin and must be no older than 30 for the 2026 cycle.
• Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree and either be enrolled in a master’s programme or apply within one year after obtaining a master’s degree.
• Proof of current enrolment or the relevant master’s certificate is required.
• Applicants must be nationals of an African Development Bank member country: Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Tunisia, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Togo, Burundi, Comoros, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, São Tomé and Príncipe, South Africa, Eswatini, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, India, Italy, Ireland, Japan, Korea, Kuwait, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Türkiye, United Kingdom, or United States of America. The United Arab Emirates is listed by AfDB as an African Development Fund participant only and is not included in this Bank-member eligibility list.
• Applicants must communicate effectively in English or French and have working knowledge of the other language.
• Applicants must be able to use the Bank’s standard software packages; knowledge of SAP is desirable.
• There is no stated residency or gender restriction. Female candidates are encouraged to apply, but this is not an eligibility gate.
• AfDB gives preference to applicants who show multicultural adaptability, strong communication, a relevant third language, or project experience directly connected with the Bank’s mission.

Application process

   When a session is advertised, open the current internship vacancy and create an account in AfDB’s online recruitment system.

   Complete the online application with current contact and education information.

   Upload a curriculum vitae of no more than two pages, proof of master’s enrolment or a master’s certificate, and a motivation letter.

   Applicants with dual nationality must declare one African Development Bank member-country nationality.

   Submit the complete application electronically before the published closing time. AfDB does not accept applications by email.
